This site outlines my paternal family genealogy from the village of Moira in Bardez,
North Goa. It currently shows our Moidekar ancestors from the late 1600s/early 1700s
to family members all over the world who in the past 3 or 4 generations have found
themselves in the following countries: India, Bangladesh, Canada, USA, UK, Germany,
Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Iraq, Kenya, Zaire, Mozambique, Ethiopia,
Tanzania/Zanzibar, Uganda, The Congo…
I have been researching the ‘family tree’ for five or so years now and hope this site
becomes a useful tool for relations around the world to discover their roots and
ancestry in Goa. Much detail is available for our past family due to my dedicated
research mainly using the Church records as well as Archive records, family documents
and details from family members. For living individuals, please note I have not
included any years or places; only first name, middle initials and surname along
with birth/marriage date is available.
Goa, as a Portuguese colony since the early 16th century until the 1960s, is a great
place to research your roots due to the well-kept colonial records, the
village 'gaunkari' system and the rural networks of 'vangodd' (extended clans). In
Moira, there are five clans of Brahmins and this site covers all five: including
Gama’s from the 1st, Sousa’s from the 2nd, Nazare’s from the 3rd, Correa’s from the
4th and Mendes’ from the 5th.
Please help me in my research by filling in the missing gaps and pointing out any
corrections that I may need to make! Not all the information on this site is correct
as details have been collected from a variety of primary and secondary sources; which
have all been recorded in detail offline. Do not copy information and republish
elsewhere without my permission. Enjoy viewing the family tree and I recommend that
you try the relationships tool to see how you are related to other family members! But
note that at times it can calculate very obscure connections so please do clarify with
me.
At this current time, there are few photographs or biographical detail available
because this site is free and so what I can include is limited. Please get in touch
with me if you would like to contribute to upgrading this site so that it can be more
than just names and dates and also so that the adverts disappear from the top and more
facilities are available. I hope you enjoy looking around and please leave a message
on the Guest Book.
Mr. Richard S. P. De Souza
